CASTEL ST ANGELO TOUR AND PASSETTO
Castel sant’Angelo Ticket Office
35€ per person
The monument was originally Hadrian’s tomb. From the central room, in which the emperor’s ashes were once kept, through a ramp inside the internal walls, we reach the top of the construction. Castel Sant’Angelo was transformed into a fortress to be used by the nearby Vatican, and is linked to it by a fortified passageway known as “il passetto”. The monument was also used as a prison.
It currently contains an important collection of ancient weapons, and from the terrace there is a breathtaking view of the city. The tour carries on with a stroll along the passetto, which has been recently restored. We recommend visiting in the evening to take in the magical atmosphere of the city at night and also to appreciate the clever lighting on the monument itself. It is possible to combine the visit to Castel Sant’Angelo with that of the Vatican and the Capitoline Museums.
The tour lasts four hours approximately or half a day if combined with the other tour.
The start and end of the tour is on Lungotevere Castello, opposite Ponte Sant’Angelo.
We suggest wearing comfortable clothing and practical shoes. No heels.
The tour is fully accessible.
