Description

This tour includes a visit to seven Roman Basilicas, an important occasion especially for pilgrims visiting the Capital.

We start from St Peter’s, the main temple of Christianity, whose dome is visible from pretty much everywhere in the city. We then move onto San Giovanni in Laterano, next door to the ancient seat of the Pope in Laterano and to the imposing Santa Maria Maggiore. Next is Santa Croce in Gerusalemme which contains what is said to be the original wooden “INRI” inscription from the cross of Christ. We proceed onto San Paolo, erected near the site where the Saint was martyred. The last two churches are San Lorenzo Fuori le Mura and San Sebastiano on the Via Appia.

Duration

The tour lasts half a day, with a mix of public transport and walking.

Meeting Point

The tour starts on Via Della Conciliazione and ends near the Terme Di Caracalla.

Other Info

Tickets for public transport are included in the tour price.

Please note that to be allowed into St Peter’s and in the other churches, men should wear long trousers and women should have their shoulders covered and skirts or shorts to the knee. Access to St Peter’s is through a metal detector and bag inspections also take place.
