The Colosseum, also known as the Flavian Amphitheatre, was the biggest amphitheatre ever built. It could accommodate up to fifty thousand spectators, who watched gladiators in combat, hunts of exotic animals and executions.
From the arena level, where the shows took place, one can see the underground service areas with the old wooden lifts used to transport animals and humans through the different levels. Higher up one can take in the whole structure and appreciate its imposing size.
This tour, in addition to the Colosseum, includes a visit to the nearby gladiators barracks (Ludus Magnus). Next you will admire Constantine’s Arch, erected on the site where Nero’s colossal statue once stood and then proceed towards the Temple of Venus and the Arch of Titus. The tour ends with a visit to Caesar’s Forum where the important buildings of ancient Rome once stood, including the Roman Curia, the site of the Roman Senate.
The tour takes 3 hours and is entirely on foot.
The tour starts and ends in Piazzale Del Colosseo.
We suggest wearing comfortable clothing and practical shoes. No heels.
The tour is not suited to those of reduced mobility due to the lack of suitable mobility aids within the ancient monuments.
